IG Saver is back — now called Takomi Saver.

Switching over

1. Remove IG Saver The Store version, or the copy you installed manually. Both use the same icon and differ only by name, so keeping both makes it impossible to tell which one you are clicking.
2. Install Takomi Saver From its new Chrome Web Store page.
3. Paste your license key Open the extension, click “I have a key”, and paste it in. Pro comes straight back — nothing to buy again. Your key was emailed to you; if you cannot find it, email support@takomi.dev.

What happened

On 29 July 2026, Google forwarded us a trademark complaint filed on Meta’s behalf about our Chrome Web Store listing — specifically our use of the “Instagram” name in the extension title and icon. Google removed the listing while it was reviewed.

To be clear about what this is not: this is not a malware, security or privacy issue. No user data was involved, and nothing about how the extension works was found to be in violation. It is purely a naming and branding dispute.

You do not have to take our word for it — the complaint itself is public. It is filed under the category “Browser Extension Brand Infringement” — a trademark matter.

Two things to note if you read it. Netcraft’s report template refers to every case it files as an “attack” — that is their boilerplate wording for all reports, not a finding about anything the extension does. And the report is dated 23 July and still points at our old extension name, so it predates the changes below.

What we have already done

• Removed the “Instagram” name from the extension title in all 15 languages
• Redesigned the icon so it no longer resembles Instagram’s branding
• Removed Instagram logos and imagery from all store artwork
• Added a clear disclaimer that we are not affiliated with Instagram or Meta
• Renamed the extension outright to Takomi Saver — dropping the “IG” name too

The first four landed on 31 July, before the listing came down. The rename goes further than the complaint asked for — we would rather over-comply and be back in the Store than argue over how much of the name we are allowed to keep.

Timeline

1. 23 July Netcraft files a complaint against our listing on Meta’s behalf, naming the “Instagram” trademark. It points at our old extension name.
2. 29 July Google forwards the complaint to us and gives us seven days to respond.
3. 31 July We publish the fix — name, icon and all store artwork, with the trademark removed. This lands before the listing comes down.
4. Early August Google removes the listing anyway while the case is reviewed. We file an appeal.
5. 7 August We submit a fully renamed build, Takomi Saver, as a new Store listing. Review begins.
6. 10 August Takomi Saver is approved and live. The appeal on the old listing never got a reply; we have stopped pursuing it.

What it cost, and what would help

The new listing is a new item, so it started from nothing: the old page’s roughly 40,000 installs and every rating and review it had earned are gone. Nothing carried over except the code and your licenses.

We are not going anywhere — development continues exactly as before.

If the extension has been useful to you, an honest review on the new page would genuinely help. Ratings are most of how anyone finds an extension on the Store, and right now there is nothing there.
